Hospital de Sant Pau
The Hospital de Sant Pau was near my hotel so I took a tour of the campus, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is currently under restoration and part of it has already been restored. It will be used as a museum and cultural center. The architecture is beautiful with lots of colorful tile and mozaics decorating the buildings and giving them interesting colors and textures. There is a new, modern hospital on the campus as well. The old hospital was built from 1901 to 1930 and designed by the Catalan modernist architect, Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The hospital was fully functional till June, 2009. Sant Pau is Catalan (the local Catalonian language) for Saint Paul.
